Data Portal Database Upgrade to Power Next Generation of Technology Solutions

The upcoming migration to a purpose-built product information database will optimize the flow of clean and reliable data to flow into quoting, logistics, and other business systems.

As the foodservice equipment and supplies industry’s data needs become more complex and intensive, the FEDA Data Portal is undergoing an upgrade designed to not only meet these demands — but exceed them for years to come.

The portal’s backend database is in the testing and migration phase of moving to a new, purpose-built platform designed and developed by Trivail,

one of the FEDA DP+Q partners. Once live, the Trivail-powered, FEDA-owned system will provide improved performance and reliability across the board, as well as enhanced dashboards and analytics for tracking data quality and usage. Admins will also gain access to better tools that make enforcing data standards faster and more efficient, easing the process for executing bulk changes, editing products, and correcting data.

Strengthening the Data Portal’s Foundation
The need for these improvements has become apparent as the FEDA Future of Distribution Council (FDC) accelerates its work across product data, shipping, and packaging standards. Migrating the FEDA Data Portal to a new database will help enable those breakthroughs by allowing for more optimized and robust data management for both manufacturers uploading product data and distributors downloading it. Getting to the data will also become easier. The new database features a more robust application programming interface (API) that streamlines calls between the backend and other distributor and manufacturer systems. Those manually managing data will also see a difference, as the upgraded database features a more polished and user-friendly interface.

FEDA understands the importance for distributors and manufacturers to maintain uninterrupted access to product data, which is why the migration will occur without any downtime. The existing database will remain live during this transitory period, giving API-connected users ample time to switch their systems to the new endpoints. Before that changeover happens, FEDA will communicate timelines and provide support to ensure a seamless experience. Those who have questions or need assistance during the migration can reach out to dataportal@feda.com.

Unlocking Next Generation Technologies
After deployment, the new database will become the underlying technology for not only accessing product specifications, but much of the data flowing through the foodservice equipment and supplies industry. It’s designed to support shipping records, logistics information, and other data types the FDC is currently developing standards around. The combination of these new standards with a more advanced backend sets the stage for reliable product data to flow directly into quoting software and other business systems, reducing the amount of manual work required and enabling real integration across the supply chain.

Moving to a new, more capable database positions the FEDA Data Portal as a fundamental part of the industry’s infrastructure — a resource that configure, price, and quote (CPQ) providers and other software vendors can tap into as they build the next generation of technology solutions.
