Students from Central Square School District visited Gerharz Equipment on a field trip.

A group of high school students near Syracuse, New York, recently experienced what it was like to work in the foodservice equipment industry when they visited Gerharz Equipment.

The FEDA distributor member hosted 11 students and 12 teachers and teaching aides from the Foundations class at Central Square School District. The Foundations program is a high school special education classroom that focuses on creating meaningful opportunities for students to get out into the community and have hands-on learning experiences.

During their visit, Gerharz team members showed students the various parts of the business, including the public showroom, warehouse, design services, concession supplies, and parts department. Students also spent time in the company’s test kitchen, where they interacted with demonstration equipment in a fun and memorable way. They decorated cookies baked in a RATIONAL combi oven, cooked their own personal pan pizzas in a rotating deck pizza oven, and made cotton candy in a floss machine.

“It was such a joy for our team to welcome them and share a little of what we do behind the scenes to support restaurants and foodservice businesses,” the company said. “More than anything, it was a day filled with smiles, laughter, and excitement, and we were truly grateful to be part of that experience.”
