Norbec Completes Acquisition of Canadian Curtis
The addition of Canadian Curtis is expected to strengthen Norbec’s presence in Ontario and support its growth strategy by expanding local market access and service capabilities. As part of the acquisition, Norbec will integrate Canadian Curtis’ activities and customer commitments into its organization. Navigating the 2026 Logistics Redesign
For foodservice equipment and supplies (FES) distributors, the U.S. domestic logistics landscape is transitioning from a “shippers’ market” in 2025 to a complex chess match in 2026. Emerging risks tied to regulatory enforcement, global consequences, transportation economics, and operational realities will influence capacity, rates, and carrier behavior. While distributors’ primary goal remains the successful delivery of a 10-burner range or a custom walk-in cooler to a job site, the “how” of that delivery is being challenged.

Restaurant Startups Surge in Post-Pandemic Economy
In March, 26,786 business applications were filed for new accommodation and foodservice establishments — closely matching the average of 26,000 applications over the past eight months. That number represents a surge in activity compared with pre-pandemic filings. From January 2010 to March 2020, new business applications for restaurants followed a steady but slower upward trend. As explained by the National Restaurant Association, if that pace had continued through the pandemic to today, there would have been only about 17,500 new applications in March.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Launches Tariff Refund Process
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) launched its new electronic tariff refund system on April 20, which allows importers of record or licensed customs brokers to file a Consolidated Administration and Processing of Entries (CAPE) Declaration. During the first phase of the refund process, only unliquidated entries and entries within 80 days of liquidation will be processed. Refunds for older, finalized tariff payments will be processed in future phases. As much as $175 billion in tariffs could eventually be returned to companies.
