The Commercial Food Equipment Service Association (CFESA) will hold courses in the coming months covering electrical, gas, steam, and water systems (EGS&W); refrigeration repair; and electrical troubleshooting. Most courses will be held at CFESA headquarters in Fort Mill, South Carolina, except for a special EGS&W training that will be presented in Los Angeles.

Companies will have two options for EGS&W training. The first course will take place Feb. 23-27 in Los Angeles, with the second scheduled for March 23-27 in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Both courses are designed for technicians who have worked in the field for two years or less or need a confidence boost to work independently. Participants must be familiar with the electric, gas, and steam theory and possess a basic mechanical aptitude. The cost is $1,000 for CFESA members and $2,000 for nonmembers.

A five-day training course covering the basic principles of commercial refrigeration repair will take place Feb. 23-27. This course will focus on introductory concepts, including the basic operation of commercial refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, defrost mechanisms, compressors, and electrical circuits. Topics covered include the laws of refrigeration, compression cycle, latent and sensible heat, heat transfer methods, cutting, bending, and torching tubing. The cost is $1,000 for CFESA members and $2,000 for nonmembers.

A three-day specialized training class focused on electrical theory, application, and troubleshooting electrical circuits in foodservice equipment will be held March 9-11. The course will cover the electrical knowledge needed to repair gas equipment and is designed for service technicians who are working every day but struggling with understanding and repairing electrical circuits and controls. The cost is $600 for CFESA members and $1,200 for nonmembers.

Finally, a new technician training course will be held April 20-24. The course will cover company expectations, customer service, kitchen equipment operation, and the basic principles of electric, gas, and steam. Participants should have little or no industry knowledge or skill set. The cost is $1,000 for CFESA members and $1,200 for nonmembers.
