Zepole Team Walks to Support Cancer Cure
Employees at Zepole Supply Co., a FEDA distributor member based in the Chicago suburbs, are putting their feet to the pavement next month to raise money to help end cancer.
The company has been involved with the Relay for Life walk since 2022, raising nearly $10,800 over the past four years to support the American Cancer Society. The Relay for Life team was started in memory of founder Nick Thiakos, who passed away from cancer in 2006.
“This event is so important to many for awareness,” said Barbara Reszke, a Zepole employee and a Relay for Life volunteer. Reszke became involved with the walk in 2012 when her then-19-year-old son was diagnosed with cancer. She has remained a part of Relay for Life ever since, and her son is now a cancer survivor. “We celebrate our cancer survivors with a luncheon that honors those who are currently fighting the battle and remembers those who we have lost.”
The Zepole team is participating in the Bolingbrook Relay for Life, which will begin with the luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6. The walk itself will start at 2 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m. Walkers can purchase and decorate a luminaria bag in honor of their loved ones. These bags are then placed around the path at the end of the walk, helping illuminate the way as participants take one last lap.
Zepole’s fundraising goal for this year’s walk is $1,500. Those interested in supporting the cause may donate on the team page.
