Unlocking Growth: Five Internal Constraints Holding Businesses Back
Running a business in today’s environment is tough. Growing one is even tougher. Constantly changing economic conditions, shifting customer expectations, increasing competition, and rapid changes in technology have all made sustained growth more complex and more elusive than ever before. Business Advocacy Groups Push Senate to Raise Pass-Through Deduction to 23 Percent
In a letter to Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID), chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, business advocacy organizations, including FEDA, expressed their strong support for making permanent and increasing the Section 199A deduction to 23 percent. “The Senate bill would make permanent the 199A deduction but also would cut in half their ability to deduct state and local taxes (SALT) as a business expense,” the letter states.
Learn More About Extended Producer Responsibility Laws at the July 9 FEDA Advocacy Council Presentation
On July 1, Oregon will become the first state to implement an extended producer responsibility (EPR) law — a new type of policy that would require producers, including wholesale distributors, that sell packaged items, food serviceware, certain types of equipment, and plastic or paper products to join a producer responsibility organization (PRO). The laws, which have been passed in seven states and are being considered by 10 more, require producers to pay fees to the PRO to fund end-of-life processing or recycling of materials. The National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW) is encouraging Oregon to delay its implementation due to widespread confusion over which companies and what products are covered by the law. Brian Wild, chief government relations officer at NAW, will share more information with FEDA members at the FEDA Advocacy Council presentation from 10:30 a.m. to noon CT on July 9.
