Restaurant Sales Rebound, Industry Reenters Growth Mode
The National Restaurant Association’s monthly Restaurant Performance Index stood at 100.9 in February, up 1% from January. The improvement was primarily credited to stronger same-store sales and customer traffic readings — although the association noted those numbers benefited from a soft February 2025 comparison. Still, 61% of restaurant operators said their same-store sales rose year over year in February, a jump from 43% in January.

FEDA Members Tout Policy Priorities on Capitol Hill
Distributors are known for their ability to sell, solve problems, and build trust — and FEDA’s recent visit to Washington, D.C., let members bring those same skills to Capitol Hill. Meeting with about 25 senators and representatives or their staffs, leaders from FEDA member companies tapped into their expertise to make the case for policies that support the foodservice equipment and supplies industry. About 10 leaders from FEDA distributor and manufacturer companies participated in the congressional visits, which were held March 17-19. The annual event began with presentations from policy experts at the National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors (NAW) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, who shared information on priority issues such as changing foodservice equipment regulations, proposed labor rules, the need to invest in transportation infrastructure, and economic policy.

California Weighs Expansion of Walkaround Inspection Rule
The proposed rule is similar to a federal rule OSHA adopted in 2024. Business advocacy groups and trade organizations, including FEDA, have opposed these kinds of changes to workplace inspections because they effectively allow union organizers or competing businesses to enter a company’s facility for reasons unaffiliated with workplace safety and health.
