FEDA Seeks Public Comment on Two Draft Industry Standards

FEDA has opened the public review period for its product data and shipping, packaging, and handling draft standards. FEDA members and other industry professionals are asked to examine these standards and submit comments before Nov. 13, 2026.

These two standards were developed by the FEDA Future of Distribution Council (FDC) and its subcommittees. The shipping, packaging, and handling standard is intended to provide practical, industry-informed guidance for reducing freight damage in the commercial foodservice equipment industry. Similarly, the product data standard offers guidance for the creation, management, maintenance, and exchange of product information used throughout the industry.

FEDA is now seeking feedback from members and other interested industry participants before the standards move into the finalization phase. The purpose of the review is to identify issues, gaps, unclear language, implementation concerns, and opportunities to improve the standards.

Those wishing to submit comments do not need to be standards experts. Anyone working with logistics or product data is encouraged to comment on the corresponding standard. For the product data standard, this may include employees involved in product data, product management, data management, technology, e-commerce, purchasing, quoting, digital systems, product content, or related functions. For the shipping, packaging, and handling standard, this may include warehouse supervisors, inventory control managers, dock workers, packaging engineers, material handlers, supply chain managers, and similar roles.

Please note that it is not necessary to review the entire document. Instead, reviewers are asked to focus on the sections most relevant to their work and provide comments based on their experience and expertise. FEDA members are encouraged to circulate these draft standards within their organizations and gather feedback from employees who work directly with the processes addressed in each standard.

Those reviewing the standards are asked to consider the following:

  • Does this reflect what actually happens in the industry?
  • Is anything unclear or open to interpretation?
  • Are any recommendations difficult or unrealistic to implement?
  • Is something important missing?
  • Could any provision create unintended consequences?
  • Are the recommendations practical across different systems, technologies, and business processes?
  • Based on your experience, would you recommend doing something differently?

Completed public comment forms should be emailed to FEDA Director of Industry Programs and Professional Development Ashley Mueller at ashley@feda.com. All submitted comments will be reviewed by the appropriate FDC group as part of the revision process.
