Middleby Acquisition Expected to Boost Offerings to Protein Industry
Middleby Corp., a FEDA manufacturer member, has expanded its portfolio of food processing equipment solutions with the acquisition of Frigomeccanica S.p.A. Frigomeccanica is a manufacturer of drying, defrosting, fermentation, refrigeration, and preservation equipment used in the food processing industry. Based in Parma, Italy, the company has annual revenue of $30 million.

Ball, a former U.K. Royal Navy chef, joined Alto-Shaam in 2022 as regional sales manager for the Middle East. In that role, he developed and grew relationships with dealers, consultants and end users throughout the region, particularly in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Restaurant Sales and Customer Traffic Trended Up in June
Same-store sales rose 2 percent in June, the largest increase since January and the fourth highest month since August 2023, according to Black Box Intelligence. Even the industry’s ongoing struggles with customer traffic are starting to see improvement. Although still negative, customer traffic improved to a 0.9 percent decline, the best result since January and the third strongest in more than three years.

In light of the expected impact of newly implemented tariffs, Neil Bradley, executive vice president and chief policy officer at the U.S. Chamber, said the organization would continue to ask the Trump administration for a tariff exemption process for small businesses.

Small Business Owners More Optimistic as Conditions Improve
A new report from the National Federation of Independent Business found that 13 percent of small business owners rated their business health as “excellent” (a five-point increase) and 52 percent said it was “good” (a three-point increase). With more confidence in their business, a larger number of small business owners now believe it is a good time to expand.
